Boozy gran who broke legs on waterslide once assaulted police officer after drink-driving

Claire Vickers, 46, and her friend Barry Douglas, 44, both suffered catastrophic injuries on the waterslide after breaking into Aldershot Lido in Hampshire

A gran who broke her leg after sneaking into a water park and going down a slide during a drunken night out previously attacked a police officer, it has emerged.

Claire Vickers, 46, was left stuck on the slide for two hours with her shin bone poking out her leg and a shattered ankle, while her friend Barry Douglas, 44, broke his fibular and both ankles.

They admitted they were “idiots” after sneaking into Aldershot Lido at 2am after they’d been drinking.

But it can now be revealed Claire, who has five children, was given a community order after lashing out at a police officer in 2012.

She’d been arrested for drink-driving in Farnham, Hampshire, and was taken into custody, where she attacked the female cop.

Zeltia Carrera, prosecuting, told a court: “The defendant became physically violent in the holding area.

“She was restrained by several police officers and after failing to calm down she was taken to a police cell. Whilst being carried she kicked out at the detention officer.”

The victim fell against a wall and hit her arm – leaving further bruising.

But Claire was spared jail at South West Surrey Magistrates’ Court, which heard she was “kept on constant watch due to her demeanour” during her time in custody.

She and Barry had been drinking in a nearby pub for several hours beforehand.

The mother, of Aldershot, then suggested they head to the lido for a quick dip and they both crawled under a fence.

Speaking of her ordeal, Claire said: “I couldn’t think straight as the pain was excruciating.

“It was like a scene out of a horror film like ‘SAW’.”

This Morning fans rage at guests who broke legs on waterslides

Her right leg was completely broken so her shin bone pushed out of her skin, and she shattered every bone in her left foot.

“‘What are we going to do? What are we going to do?’ was all I said for ages,” said Claire.

“I was banging and banging and, as my foot was hanging off, I was trying to hold that up.”

Barry said: “The pain was unbearable, it was one of the most horrific experience I’ve had in my life.”

But when the friends appeared on This Morning this week to blast the lido’s security, viewers were not impressed with their antics.

“You are NOT a getting any pity from anyone,” read one tweet.

“Are they really blaming the water park,” another tweet said.
